How to transition my dog to your meals for the first time?
When switching to a new brand of food or a different diet, the meal should always be introduced slowly. Start by mixing 1/5 (for if your dog is more prone to tummy issues) or 1/3 (for they can tolerate most new meals) of The Grateful Pet into their existing food and gradually increasing the portion of their new meals and reducing their previous diet over 3 to 7 days.
Loose stools and/or mild diarrhoea may happen depending on how rapidly the dietary transition is made but this should not last longer than 2 days. A longer, more gradual transition period is highly recommended for if your dog has an extra sensitive stomach.
For dogs more prone to tummy issues
Days 1-3, serve 25% of new food mixed with 75% old food
Days 4-7, serve 50% of new food mixed with 50% of the old food
Days 8-12, serve 75% of new food mixed with 25% of the old food
Day 13-14, serve 100% of new food
For dogs who can tolerate most new meals
Days 1-2, serve 35% of new food mixed with 65% old food
Days 3-4, serve 70% of new food mixed with 30% of the old food
Days 5-7, serve 100% of new food
Feel free to adjust the feeding proportions slightly as you observe your dog during the first few days.
